After a decade of absence, women are back in the PNG Parliament

Belatedly catching up posting some of my recent work. This was the second report I filed for The Guardian during a reporting trip to PNG during the 2022 election. I was excited and gratified to be able to interview both the successful women – the new Central Governor Rufina Peter and MP for Rai Coast Kessy Sawang – as well as half a dozen other high profile women candidates and get insights into their experiences and the obstacles women face getting into PNG politics. Stand by for a long read on that in the coming December edition of Meanjin. There are some more reports from that July trip and another in September still in the works, so stay tuned.
